If Andre Miller's tenure with the 76ers wasn't already over, it is seemingly another step closer. A source familiar with the situation said the Sixers have withdrawn their 1-year offer to the veteran point guard.
The Sixers made that move because they believe Miller does not want to return on a 1-year contract. There have been multiple reports in recent days about interest from the New York Knicks and the Portland Trail Blazers, and both the Sixers and Miller's agent, Andy Miller, are open to the possibility of a sign-and-trade. Sixers president/general manager Ed Stefanski, who declined comment, is in Las Vegas watching Andre Iguodala and Thaddeus Young perform in the U.S. national team's minicamp. The Sixers' representatives will play in tomorrow night's intrasquad game.
On another front, the source said the Sixers have shown some interest in unrestricted free-agent guard Luther Head, but are only lukewarm to the idea because they view the 6-3 Head as a small shooting guard. Head, a first-round draft choice of the Houston Rockets in 2005, split last season between the Rockets (22 games) and the Miami Heat (10 games).
The Sixers were one of four teams to watch comebacking guard Troy Hudson in a recent workout in Las Vegas, but don't appear interested in pursuing him. They are still discussing internally whether they should pursue Jamaal Tinsley, waived Wednesday by the Indiana Pacers; Tinsley will not clear waivers and become an unrestricted free agent until next Wednesday.
They still have interest in Golden State Warriors restricted free agent C.J. Watson, but have been told Watson wants more than 1 year in an offer. The Sixers , as they did last season, are planning to fill out their roster with 1-year deals.
Ratliff goneTheo Ratliff has gone from backing up Samuel Dalembert to backing up Tim Duncan.
Ratliff, an unrestricted free agent, has agreed to a 1-year contract with the San Antonio Spurs for a little more more than $1.3 million, the minimum salary for players with at least 10 years of service in the NBA. He spent last season with the Sixers on a similar contract.
Ratliff, 36, who entered the league as a first-round draft choice with the Detroit Pistons in 1995-96, will be playing his 15th season.
"He had numerous offers, but decided San Antonio was the best place for him to be this season," said agent Joel Bell.
The 6-10 Ratliff averaged 1.9 points and 2.8 rebounds in 46 games with the Sixers last season. He was critical of the coaching staff after the team was eliminated by the Orlando Magic by a 114-89 score in Game 6 of the first round of the playoffs, then skipped his exit meeting.
The Sixers had no interest in re-signing him. *
