Allen Iverson apparently chose family and food over practice - and he'll be fined for it. Iverson was the only player who didn't show up when the Detroit Pistons worked out on Thanksgiving. Coach Michael Curry confirmed Iverson will be fined, will not start tonight against the Milwaukee Bucks and might not play in the game for missing the practice. "I'm surprised when guys are late; I'm surprised when they don't show," Curry told the Detroit Free Press. "It's a pretty hefty fine to be late, or to miss, and once again, it's accountability for yourself and your teammates." Rodney Stuckey will start in Iverson's place against the Bucks. After Detroit traded for the superstar, Iverson insisted he would do whatever Curry wanted him to and even mocked his famous rant about practice while playing for the Philadelphia 76ers. The Pistons are 5-5 since acquiring Iverson from the Denver Nuggets.

Knicks: : Stephon Marbury's refusal to play for injury-depleted New York for the second time in six days will likely mean the end to his Knicks career sooner rather than later. A team source told the New York Daily News that Marbury will either be ordered to stay home indefinitely or released. The move could come this weekend, suggesting the guard will likely be asked to leave the team until he is traded or a buyout is reached.

Magic 105, Wizards 90: : Dwight Howard had 26 points and 14 rebounds, and Hedo Turkoglu added 20 points and a season-high 10 rebounds to help visiting Orlando beat Washington. The Magic has won eight of its past nine games and six in a row on the road. Caron Butler scored 19 of his 25 points in the first half for Washington, and Antawn Jamison had 17 points and 12 rebounds. Playing against Howard was a frustrating experience for Wizards interim coach Ed Tapscott. "He takes up a lot of space," Tapscott said. "It's like a quarter-mile around his shoulders, he's so broad."

McCoy, No. 4 Longhorns cruise past Aggies, 49-9

All Texas and Colt McCoy can do now is wait. McCoy passed for two touchdowns, ran for two more and No. 4 Texas ended a two-game losing streak to rival Texas A&M with a 49-9 home victory, a performance that might or might not have been impressive enough to boost McCoy's chances for the Heisman Trophy and his team's position in the Bowl Championship Series. McCoy was 23-for-28 passing for 311 yards, and he added 49 rushing yards for Texas (11-1, 7-1 Big 12) to earn his first win over the Aggies (4-8, 2-6) in three tries. He also got career victory No. 31, passing Vince Young to set a Texas record for starting quarterbacks. Cody Johnson ran for 102 yards and two scores for the Longhorns, with most of his yards coming in the fourth quarter when the game was already out of reach. Texas, No. 2 in the BCS standings, must wait to see what happens this weekend to determine whether its national title dreams are intact. The Longhorns are in prime position for at least a berth in a BCS bowl but need some help if the team that spent a month at No. 1 is to play for the Big 12 title and BCS national championship.

Baseball: : Paul Beeston thinks the Toronto Blue Jays still have a shot at re-signing pitcher A.J. Burnett. With the economy sinking, however, the team's interim CEO acknowledged Toronto might choose to save the $24 million Burnett passed up this offseason rather than spend it on other free agents. "It's a possibility," Beeston said. "We can spend $100 million, but if it doesn't make sense, why do it?" Burnett recently opted out of the final two seasons of his five-year contract, deciding to test the free-agent market and forgo $24 million the Blue Jays would have owed him. Beeston said he and general manager J.P. Ricciardi visited Burnett at his Monkton home last month and came away convinced they had a chance to keep the right-hander. The Orioles are one of the roughly half-dozen teams that remain in the mix to sign Burnett.

NHL: : Brian Burke and the Toronto Maple Leafs have agreed to a six-year deal for the former Anaheim Ducks general manager to take over as president and GM, the Associated Press learned. "The deal is done," said a person familiar with the negotiations who spoke on condition of anonymity because the team isn't ready to announce it. That could come tomorrow. Burke spent the past three-plus seasons with the Ducks, leading them to a Stanley Cup title in 2007. He stepped down Nov. 12 after declining to sign a contract extension that would take him beyond this season. Burke will replace Cliff Fletcher, hired as interim GM after John Ferguson's firing in January.

More NHL:: Coyotes center Olli Jokinen will be sidelined for at least two weeks by a shoulder injury, ending his consecutive games streak at 397. Jokinen is the team's second-leading scorer with seven goals and 18 points. Horse racing: : Eternal Star, a chestnut son of Five Star Day, won the afternoon feature at Laurel Park by 3 3/4 lengths in 1:09.64. Stakes winners Lycurgus and Celtic Innis finished second and third, respectively. Eternal Star paid $2.80 as the overwhelming favorite. Julian Pimentel rode Eternal Star for trainer Mike Trombetta in the $40,000, six-furlong allowance race. The colt has won six of nine starts this year.
