Philadelphia 76ers Roster Report 2008-10-05

Philadelphia 76ers Roster Report 2008-10-05
DRAFT PICK:

Marreese Speights, F, 6-10, Florida. While the Sixers liked the way Speights played in the NBA Summer League, he needs to get stronger and improve his conditioning and is likely to be the 11th or 12th man.

PLAYER NOTES:

--While he now has an agent (Andy Miller) after not having one for most of the offseason, G Andre Miller said he's in no hurry to discuss a contract extension with the Sixers. He's heading into the final year of a deal that'll pay him $10 million.

"Right now, having an agent is a part of business and something that I wanted to take care of in the offseason and not let it distract me going into the season," Miller said. "I'm not going to worry about extensions and all that. The main thing for me is to go out and play basketball and let the other things take care of themselves."

--F/G Andre Iguodala sprained his left ankle on the opening night (second practice) of training camp. He missed the second day of workouts at Penn State, but he was expected to be back later in camp.

--G/F Kareem Rush worked with the starters during the first day of camp. Willie Green and Thaddeus Young were at the wing spots with Iguodala injured for the second night, although Sixers coach Maurice Cheeks raved about Rush making "a ton of shots" in that workout.

--G Willie Green reported to camp seven pounds lighter than he did a year ago. Green said he lost the weight with extra conditioning work, in part because he's so excited to have Elton Brand at power forward.
