--The Sixers are holding training camp at nearby St. Joseph's University, rather than going out to Penn State again. Camp begins Sept. 29, with the first preseason game Oct. 6 against the Raptors in London, Ontario.
--The Sixers hired former Villanova star Ed Pinckney to serve as the team's TV analyst alongside long-time play-by-play man Marc Zumoff for the 2009-10 season. Pinckney was the starting center on the Wildcats' 1984-85 team that shocked Georgetown in the NCAA championship game. He had a 12-year NBA playing career with eight teams, including the Sixers (1995-96). Pinckney was an assistant coach at Villanova and with the Timberwolves, as well as on the Heat's radio and TV broadcast team. Pinckney, 46, replaces Bob Salmi, whose contract wasn't renewed.
QUOTE TO NOTE: "My favorite part of Philly is the interaction with the fans. They're passionate, they're tough, but they're a lot of fun. They tell it how it is and they expect you to give your heart and soul and win, and I appreciate that about them." -- F Elton Brand, on looking forward to his second season with the Sixers after injuries limited him to 29 games in his first year in Philly.
