--The Sixers signed rookie first-round pick Jrue Holiday, giving them 10 players under contract for 2009-10 and 2010-11. Holiday gets a guaranteed two-year, $2.6 million contract that will pay him $1.26 million this season. He is expected to be in coach Eddie Jordan's point-guard rotation after averaging 8.6 points, 3.4 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 3.7 turnovers and 1.6 steals in 29.0 minutes per game at the Orlando Pro Summer League.
--The Sixers are apparently looking at what they believe are veterans' minimum-salary guys such as Carlos Arroyo, Juan Dixon, Jason Hart and others for one spot as a reserve point guard, assuming they can't work out a sign-and-trade involving free agent Andre Miller. They are also eyeing minimum-salary big men such as Ryan Hollins, Adonal Foyle, Chris Mihm and Primoz Brezec for another spot. QUOTE TO NOTE: "That's hindsight. It's easy to say after the fact." -- Team president Ed Stefanski, on whether or not signing F/C Elton Brand to a five-year, $82 million contract in July 2008 was a good move now that the Sixers will probably rely on young point guards and not bring back Andre Miller.
