--The Sixers sold out the Denver game within two days after Allen Iverson signed with the team that made him the No. 1 pick in the 1996 draft. Their biggest crowd in the first eight home dates had been 14,638, during which time they averaged just 11,965 fans (29th in the league). --In an emotional news conference at the Wachovia Center, Iverson said it had felt strange for him to wear another team's uniform since the Sixers traded him away three years ago and that he believes he still has plenty of game left at age 34. "If I couldn't play basketball at the level I'm accustomed to, I wouldn't have made this decision," Iverson said. "I didn't want to come back and embarrass myself."
He's also thrilled to be back with the passionate Philly folks who enjoyed watching him play in his first 10-plus NBA seasons.
"This is a great day for me because the relationship I have with these fans is like no other, I think, in sports," he said. "I have a love for them, and they love me."
QUOTE TO NOTE: "The last couple years have been hell. All I want to do is play basketball and help the guys I play with." -- G Allen Iverson, on returning to the Sixers after spending the three previous years with three other teams.
