--The Sixers signed 35-year-old Theo Ratliff to the 10-year veterans' minimum of $1.26 million. Ratliff, who can still block shots and defend in the paint, is expected to back up starting center Samuel Dalembert. This will be Ratliff's second stint with the team ?- he was a standout big man from 1997-2001, earning an All-Star spot in 2000-01. --The Sixers only have minimum contracts with which to fill out their roster. The good news is they won't have to pay the luxury tax and are about $5 million under the threshold after signing Andre Iguodala and Ratliff.
QUOTE TO NOTE: "Andre's numbers were better than the two players (Luol Deng and Emeka Okafor, who also signed big contracts). You have to look at the overall picture of what he does for your team and what his numbers were." -- Team president Ed Stefanski, on signing forward/guard Andre Iguodala to a larger deal (six years, $80 million) than seemingly comparable players Deng (six years, $71 million) and Okafor (six years, $72 million) received.
