Philadelphia 76ers Getting Inside 2009-07-25
The Sixers had hoped to work out a sign-and-trade with point guard Andre Miller. Instead, he is signed and gone.

The Portland Trail Blazers signed Miller to a three-year, $21 million deal (the last year is not guaranteed) after the Sixers pulled their one-year contract offer. That means that, at this point, Philadelphia's point guard will be Lou Williams or rookie Jrue Holiday.

The Blazers didn't have to work a sign-and-trade agreement with the 76ers for Miller because they are $7.7 million under the salary cap.

The Sixers didn't want to take on much salary since they are within $10 million of having to pay the luxury tax and still must add at least three players (point guard, small forward, center) to round out the roster. They also already have $58.2 million in committed salary for 2010-11.

Miller was with the Sixers for 2 1/2 seasons since coming over from Denver. Miller's streak of 530 consecutive games is the longest in the league.
