76ers hope to snap long skid tonight

76ers hope to snap long skid tonight There's not much left to say about the 76ers' last month of Basketball.

Until they win a game, something they have not done since Nov. 18, the losing streak will consume most words and thoughts about this team.

Tonight against the Golden State Warriors at the Wachovia Center, the Sixers have another chance to end the slide, which has reached 12 games. This is the team's longest losing streak since it dropped 12 straight from Nov. 25 to Dec. 20, 2006.

The Sixers are 5-18; the Warriors are 7-16.

In practice yesterday at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, the Sixers focused on Golden State's high-scoring style of play, even incorporating assistant coach Aaron McKie as part of the simulation.

Golden State features explosive perimeter player Monta Ellis, who is averaging 24.7 points per game, as well as forward Corey Maggette and guards Stephen Curry and Anthony Morrow.

The Warriors average 107.2 points per game, but they allow 111.4.

"They have a small lineup that they spot up around the three-point line, and they can make a shot or they can drive on you," Sixers coach Eddie Jordan said.

"So we did a little taste of that today in practice to show how it's going to feel and look. . . . They are so carefree in a sense, and yet there's a method to what they're doing. They're well-coached, I think. And they're just playing to the strength of their personnel."

Asked what the Sixers' strength is, Jordan seemed unsure.

"I'm still hoping that our strength can overcome some things here," Jordan said. "Wow, when you're losing like we are, it's hard to find a strength right now. Before, it was resiliency and winning late in the game - we would pull out some of these games. We're still searching for the strength; the strength hasn't come out."

Iverson's knee. Sixers point guard Allen Iverson did not practice yesterday and is listed as day-to-day after having fluid drained from his left knee. After practice, Iverson said he planned on playing tonight.

"I think that the left knee will feel a lot better being that I got it drained," Iverson said. "They said it was 55 cc's, and that's a lot, that's more than I ever had before. I think it all just stems from me starting so fast, not having the chance to practice or do any running, not playing for over a month and just jumping right into the fire."

Iverson is also battling a stress reaction in his right fibula.

Other injuries. Reserve guard Willie Green did not practice. Green suffered a sprained medial collateral ligament in his right knee during Friday's loss to Houston. Green is listed as probable for tonight.

Center Marreese Speights took part in his second straight practice after missing a month with a partially torn ligament in his left knee. The Sixers have not altered Speights' timetable for return: He was scheduled to miss six weeks, meaning he still has two weeks before returning to game action.
