History of recent back-to-back 50-point games

by December 6, 2007 @ 12:00 am (Category : Uncategorized )

NBA News - Denver’s Allen Iverson will attempt a trick he’s already accomplished once in his storied NBA career when the Nuggets play the Dallas Mavericks at American Airlines Center tonight on TNT (8 p.m. ET): Scoring at least 50 points in consecutive games. Iverson tallied 51 points last night in a 111-107 loss to the L.A. Lakers. Iverson’s 51 points were the most by a Nuggets player since Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf scored 51 at Utah on Dec. 7, 1995. Iverson is one of only five players to post consecutive 50-plus scoring games since the 1970-71 season: Kobe Bryant — March 16-23, 2007 (four straight games)
- Allen Iverson — Dec. 18-20, 2004 (two)
- Antawn Jamison — Dec. 3-6, 2000 (two)
- Michael Jordan — April 12-16, 1987 (three)
- Bernard King — Jan. 31-Feb. 1, 1984 (two)
Iverson, who has 11 50-point games in his career, has nine this decade. There have been 60 instances this decade of a player scoring at least 50 in a game. The most 50-point performances since the 2000-01 season belong to:
- Kobe Bryant (21)
- Allen Iverson (nine)
- Tracy McGrady (four)
- Gilbert Arenas (three)
- LeBron James (three)
